Uganda’s Climate and Weather

Uganda has a warm tropical climate with two dry seasons and two rainy seasons. The dry seasons are from December to February and from June to August. During these months, the weather is sunny and perfect for safaris. Daytime temperatures range between 25°C and 30°C (77°F to 86°F), and you can enjoy clear skies and good roads.

The rainy seasons fall between March to May and September to November. In these months, it may rain in the morning or evening, but the sun usually comes out later. The temperatures remain warm, around 23°C to 27°C (73°F to 81°F). The landscapes are very green and beautiful during this time, which is great for photography.

Best Time for Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Tracking

The best time for gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry months: June to August and December to February. These months have little rain, and the forest trails are easier to walk. The temperatures during trekking are comfortable, around 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) in the highlands of Bwindi and Mgahinga.

You can also trek gorillas during the rainy season, especially in April, May, or November when permits are easier to get and some lodges offer discounts. The forest is wetter but also more green and alive. We also offer chimpanzee trekking during both seasons in places like Kibale Forest, and we always help you prepare with the right gear and tips.

Best Months for Wildlife Safaris in Uganda

For wildlife viewing in Uganda, the dry season is the best. From June to August and December to February, animals gather at water sources, and the grass is shorter, making it easier to see lions, elephants, giraffes, and more. The weather is sunny and warm, with temperatures between 26°C and 30°C (79°F to 86°F) in places like Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Kidepo Valley.

During the green season (rainy months), the parks are quieter and very lush. The temperatures remain pleasant, and this is a great time for birdwatching and for photographers who love dramatic skies and green landscapes. Rain is usually short and does not last all day.
