Responsible Travel
It’s never just about business, we care about the world itself...
The level at which we provide our services and handle customers to the best of their satisfaction has never deteriorated at any moment but rather gets on improving over time. We pledge our full commitment and service towards building the tourism industry to make our customers have a memorable experience while in Uganda.
A choice to take a safari is always a decision made with expectations, our role is to ensure we don’t disappoint those expectations in any way and give you the real meaning of an African Safari.
How do we give back to the communities?
As we all enjoy adventurous tours, we cannot eliminate the existence of local people in places we visit. How then do we give back to them?
The first best way is to respect these local communities, this involves respecting their cultures and nature of life. Investing some money into these communities and more so bond with them. At Dark Hills, we ensure we keep business close to these communities such as buying their locally produced crafts and encouraging our clients to do the same, having their homes for accommodation and making reasonable payments, and ensuring that any payment made to them is justifiable.
We also employ people from the local communities for various services during our trips. We also pay all the relevant taxes which presumably go to the development of these communities.
In this, we look at keeping a relationship with communities because they also have an impact on the tourism industry and the safety of these places.
Responsible Travel is about preserving the environment.
We understand that tourism as an industry revolves around the wellness of our environment and it’s our duty as Dark Hills to ensure that the environment is not damaged as it may result in the extinction of important species. Here, we take on various measures to ensure the preservation of the environment:
- We follow a clear waste management system throughout our travels, at our offices, and wherever we have access. On all our trips, we carry with us any waste such as plastics that can be dangerous to these places such as national parks and ensure they are properly disposed of or recycled if possible. In addition to that, we encourage our clients never to dispose of any plastics, polythene, or any other within the places that we visit.
- With the rules that are always set and informed to us by the park guides, we advise our clients always to observe these rules in the best way possible. Most of these rules are always in place to ensure the environmental preservation of these areas.
- Keeping track of the known footpaths within our various destinations. The establishment of these is always reasonable and any other use of any other would-be contravene the preservation of the environment.
- Limiting carbon emissions. Taking all the necessary steps to ensure the conservation of the environment, we are also aware of how impactful various activities we do have on the environment and this is inclusive of traveling, cooking whatever it may be. We may not out rule each and everything, but we take the necessary measures to ensure that these actions are pulled off where necessary to reduce the impact they may have on the environment.
Wildlife Preservation is at the Center of Responsible Travel.
Dark Hills understands that wildlife is always at the forefront of most tourism activities and has its preservation at heart. We take the necessary measures of ensuring that we protect the wildlife, both flora, and fauna.
- Noise is always unwanted in most wildlife places, this is the reason we encourage our clients to minimize noise while in such places, and also we minimize the use of any devices that may interfere with the peace of resident animals.
- We stand against any illegal actions that violate the peace and existence of wildlife or even their welfare. We discourage our clients from any actions of the sort such as feeding these animals or getting into close contact with them which may be a danger to the animals too.
- We carry out research and survey on any actions that may be dangerous to the existence of the wildlife and the possible ways to have these circumstances eliminated.
