Walk with Rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Located just 3 to 4 hours from Kampala, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see wild white rhinos. These magnificent animals were once extinct in Uganda due to poaching, but they are now making a strong comeback, thanks to dedicated conservation work.
Here, you won’t sit in a car watching from a distance. Instead, you will be on foot, guided by professional rangers, walking through the bush until you are just a few meters from a grazing rhino. The feeling is hard to describe, raw, real, and humbling.
This is not a zoo. It’s the wild. And that’s exactly what makes it special.
What to Expect During Rhino Tracking
The tracking usually takes about 1 to 2 hours. It begins with a safety briefing from experienced guides, then you set off in small groups. The rangers are skilled in spotting signs, fresh footprints, broken branches, or dung, and before you know it, you will find yourself just a few steps away from a calm rhino, peacefully feeding in the grass.
Along the way, you might also spot bushbucks, warthogs, monkeys, and over 300 species of birds, making this a great stop for nature lovers and birdwatchers too.
Rhino tracking is available all year round, but the dry seasons (June to August and December to February) offer easier walking conditions and better visibility.
